about

Willie Campbell has immersed himself in a year of writing and collaborating with fellow musicians and songwriters. "Treasure the Rain" emerges as a highlight from this creative journey, showcasing the forthright lyrics of fellow Lewis native Norman Paterson. Having embarked on songwriting in his 60s, Paterson brings a unique perspective unburdened by the challenges faced by aspiring writers.
The song encapsulates the atmosphere and conflicting emotions of life on the Isle of Lewis in winter, condensed into a 2.40-minute track with a chorus that imparts a hopeful tone. Initially conceived as a folk song played on guitar, Willie Campbell felt his playing was unsuited to the song's potential. What you hear now is a deliberate step backward to simplicity, aligning with the tone of Norman Paterson's optimistic words.

lyrics

Treasure the Rain

While I wait for the Sun, I’ll treasure the rain.
I’ll sit by the sea till I feel whole again, I’ll watch as the tide goes out and returns.
I’ll treasure the rain while I wait for the Sun.

And I know this will pass as it has done before, and the Sun will return to my life once more.

And I know this will pass as it has done before, and the Sun will return to my life once more.

While I wait for the calm, i’ll ride with the storm, I’ll sit by the fire until I feel its warmth.
I’ll watch as the flames light up this old room.
I’ll ride with the storm while I wait for the calm.

And I know this will pass as it has done before, and the Sun will return to my life once more.

And I know this will pass as it has done before, and the Sun will return to my life once more.
